Background

Washington Technology Solutions (WaTech) manages the state's core technology services, delivering robust cybersecurity to safeguard state networks. The agency directs IT strategy, enterprise architecture, and oversees major government IT projects. WaTech supports Washington state agencies, local and Tribal governments, and public-benefit nonprofits. WaTech used SharpCloud to transform their digital roadmapping processes with the overall ambition to better align the technology strategy across the complex project infostructure and ensure delivery against the governor's goals, the Washington Enterprise IT Strategic Plan, and agency strategic goals and initiatives. 

Challenge

WaTech, with over 550 employees, needed an effective tool for strategic planning and roadmapping. The challenge was to find a solution that could visually represent the complex relationships between people, projects, and timelines, while also incorporating detailed documentation. Ensuring that all employees and stakeholders were aligned and informed was critical for the agency's success.
Cause

The complexity and scale of WaTech’s operations, which include managing core technology infrastructure for various government agencies and nonprofits, made it difficult to maintain a cohesive strategic plan. Traditional tools used were unable to provide the depth and visual engagement required to keep everyone on the same page. The existing tools failed to consolidate the extensive documentation and content needed to support a comprehensive strategic roadmap.
Solution
